Location Based Mobile Experiences

Interactive video based story telling based on mobile and location in an interesting concept developed by the students at Nanyang Technological University in Singapore.

It would be interesting to do a concept for learning and obviously marketing new experiences. I will write another post on my experiences with creating a location based learning experience. What would you do ?

The relationship between the advertiser and the consumer is really captured well in this spoof by Microsoft. I came across this at the Web Community Forum . Enjoy..

Not read a manual

So the iPhone launches tomorrow and its going to be a while before it is launched in India. Here’s the thing, I already consider myself an expert on the iPhone. I have’nt seen the product nor even read a manual but today a colleague and I talked on it for close to 30 minutes. I think we pretty much played back all the things we saw in the 25 minute video on Apple’s site. After the conversation, I was amazed at how clearly we had visualised a product we have not even seen. I am sure this is true for a lot of people. One has read a lot on the iPhone and I’ve even read a point of view that calls it media manipulation. But is it as simple as that. This kind of attention is amazing. People being so engaged on a product that they have neither seen nor fully know about. Look up Google Trends here to know what I am talking about. This kind of customer engagement is what a lot of other companies crave for and yet don’t know how to generate.I’ve been thinking about it and I also remembered the fact that I saw the iPhone video at midnight , 3 hours before I had to catch a flight! Just fascinating. So here’s my story..I first saw an Apple product at a trade show in Delhi in the 1990′s. The product was QuickTime VR. I was hooked and immediately saw all the possible things we could do with it. We placed an order for the software and a Mac . But due to delays , on the part of the Indian distributor, we had to cancel the order. No Apple product was considered at our company, till the iPod became such a huge hit. We purchased a Power Book and since then have considered more investments in this range.I’m not the one to wake up in the middle of the night to hear the keynote of the CEO, but I’ve kept my interest in their product line. Web site visits have largely been my source of information. I’m not sure if I have been swayed by the hype but i do know the following :

  • I like the simplicity of their product design
  • I am relieved by their greener apple message
  • I don’t have to read the manual to use their products !
  • A lot of people believe in their product and in them and Apple has a responsibility to ensure that they don’t betray its customers trust in anyway.
  • Do not get carried away!

A suggestion

Just got my monthly quota of magazines.  I have a quick suggestion to make to the publishers and their team.Is it really important to pack magazine in transparent plastic ? If they can remove the  plastic bags , It could be one step in improving the environment.
